Pakistan Summons US Envoy Over Comments on Jammu and Kashmir

Pakistan had summoned Chargé d'Affaires Natalie Baker in Islamabad on 19 August, to which India has reacted. Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said, "I see no reason to comment on Pakistan's frustration." Sergio Gor's remarks on Jammu and Kashmir had irked Pakistan. Pakistan also lodged a formal protest on Wednesday (19 August 2026) by summoning the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Islamabad. The Foreign Ministry spokesperson bluntly told Pakistan that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral and inalienable part of India and will always remain so. According to Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, a letter of protest was handed over to the US Ambassador over his alleged "factually incorrect" comments on the status of Jammu and Kashmir. The statement said that Pakistan rejected the remarks that Jammu and Kashmir was "part of India." Pakistan reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir was an internationally disputed territory, and that the Kashmiri Ambassador had stated that the region was an "inalienable" part of the United Nations Security Council.
