Police Block Opposition MPs from Meeting Fasting Activist Sonam Wangchuk in Gurugram

A delegation of opposition MPs who had come to meet activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram were stopped by the police outside the hospital. The MPs say they had come to hand over a letter signed by 55 MPs to Sonam Wangchuk, urging him to end his fast. However, the police did not allow them to go inside the hospital and meet Wangchuk. Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh said, "This is the first time in history that the police are stopping people from meeting a patient admitted in a hospital. We have come to meet Sonam Wangchuk, who is admitted in the hospital. Why after all? 55 MPs have signed this letter and we have come to give this letter to Sonam, requesting her to end her fast. Do these people want to kill Wangchuk?" He added, "This letter says that you end your fast. Looking at your health and your life, you should not go on this fast now. Even if Sonam Wangchuk had told them that they could break their fast, they would have assured them that they would not."
