Punjab Chief Minister Announces Sikh Cabinet Members' Appearance Before Akal Takht Over Anti-Sacrilege Law

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday said that all Sikh MLAs and cabinet ministers will appear before the Akal Takht, where they have been summoned on June 29 in connection with the anti-sacrilege law. His statement came after a closed-door meeting with party MLAs in Amritsar to decide the further course of action in view of the directions of the Akal Takht, the highest religious body of Sikhs. CM Bhagwant Mann, while talking to reporters in Amritsar, said that our MLAs and ministers will go there and give their version in writing. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj had on June 15 summoned all Sikh MLAs and Sikh ministers to appear before the Akal Takht on June 29 in connection with the anti-sacrilege law. Non-Sikh cabinet ministers have been asked to give their opinion in writing on the matter before June 29. The Akal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had earlier objected to the anti-sacrilege law'Jagat Sri Granth Sahib (sacrilege), 2026'and the Sikh Panth Amendment Act '.
