Punjab Chief Minister Seeks Parole for Convicted Terrorist Jagtar Singh Hawara to Care for Ailing Mother

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has written to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria urging him to grant parole to Jagtar Singh Hawara to take care of his ailing mother. Jagtar Singh Hawara is a member of Babbar Khalsa and is serving a life sentence for conspiring to assassinate former Chief Minister Beant Singh in 1995. Hawara was earlier sentenced to death, but it was later commuted to life. Hawara was also in the news when he escaped from Burail Jail in Chandigarh by digging a long tunnel. However, he was recaptured in 2005. He is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
