Punjab Demands Payment from Rajasthan and Haryana for Unpaid Water Dues

Punjab has sent a final demand notice to Rajasthan, asking it to deposit the amount within 30 days. The chief secretary of Punjab has written to the chief secretary of Haryana, warning of legal action if the payment is not made. Barinder Goyal reported that water is going from Punjab to Rajasthan under an agreement with Maharaja Bikaner in 1920. Rajasthan continued to pay for this water until 1920, but after that the previous governments stopped taking money from Rajasthan without giving any reason. The current government is now recovering these dues. The Haryana government has been asked to pay for the operation and maintenance of the Bhakra Main Line and other common canals. Haryana has stopped paying for the maintenance of the canals, which is said to be 312 crores. The chief secretary of Punjab has written to the chief secretary of Haryana, demanding immediate payment. Advertisement Goyal said that the entire cost of maintenance of the Bhakra Main Line and other canals is being borne by Punjab. Legal action will be taken on the non-payment of dues. The Punjab government has rejected Rajasthan's claims on the basis of royalties, similar to the 1920 agreement.
