Punjab Drug Campaigner Parvinder Singh Jhota Cremated Amid Calls for Justice

Parvinder Singh Jhota, a campaigner against drugs in Mansa, Punjab, was cremated on Sunday at his farm. The family bid farewell to him 26 days after the murder. Jhota's body was brought to Mansa from Chandigarh's PGI, where a large number of people gathered. During this time people showered flowers on his body and chanted'Parvinder Jhota Amar Rahe '. The body was first taken to the protest site and then to his house. It was then cremated at the family's farm. Jhota's father Bhim Singh has alleged the complicity of political leaders and police officers behind his son's murder. He demanded a thorough investigation into the case and immediate transfer of the local SSP. Bhim Singh alleged that drug traffickers, in connivance with the Punjab government and local police administration, conspired to kill his son. He said that the political people behind the murder are still roaming free, as long as the local party leaders are not involved in the investigation.
