Rajasthan High Court Stays Arrest of Winning Corporators, Grants Interim Relief

In Rajasthan, for the first time in the history of the state, the High Court constituted a court at 12 pm to hear the arrest of the winning corporators in Bikaner and Hanumangarh and stayed the arrest after hearing the case till 2 pm. Earlier on Sunday, even on the day off, the High Court had to constitute a court to hear the arrest of the corporators of Nagaur and Sri Ganganagar and stopped the arrest of the corporators at both places. Late on Sunday night, the gates of the Rajasthan High Court Jodhpur were opened. A special hearing was held on the petition related to the Bikaner mayoral election. The petition of Maqsood Ahmed, the newly elected corporator from Ward-18 of Bikaner Municipal Corporation, was heard. Maqsood Ahmed got a big interim relief from the Rajasthan High Court. A single bench of Justice Sunil Beniwal in the High Court stayed the arrest. Ahmed was issued a notice as a witness in a nearly two-month-old FIR case from Kotgate police station on 15 September.
