The Jat community is considered to be one of the most influential political classes in the state. Estimated to number between 8 million and 10 million, it wields a decisive influence in about 50 to 60 assembly seats, including Shekhawati, Bikaner, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Barmer, Jaisalmer, and parts of Bharatpur. For a long time, large sections of Jat voters have been considered to be in support of the Congress and have been seen as instrumental in the change of power.
