Dr. Mrinal Joshi, Superintendent and Director, Rehab Centre, SMS Hospital, said that this centre operates as Rajasthan's only State Spinal Injuries Centre where a large number of patients suffering from severe spinal cord injury and paralysis come for treatment. Such patients require regular and intensive physiotherapy for a long period of time to improve their physical functioning. Dr. Joshi said that due to the large number of patients in government hospitals and limited availability of trained physiotherapists, it is challenging to give intensive therapy to every patient for a sufficient period of time. Keeping this problem in mind, an AI-based robotic physiotherapy system has been installed in the hospital which will improve the continuity and quality of therapy. This smart robotic system will train the patients in the same way by learning the movements, techniques and therapy patterns performed by the physiotherapist. It will be able to determine the physical condition of the patient and the need of the patient, making it more effective with the use of intelligence-based techniques.
