Ratan Lal Ahirwar became MLA for the first time in 1989 by winning the Babina seat on a BJP ticket. He then became MLA from BJP for the second time in 1991 and third time in 1993. However, he lost the elections in 1996. He contested the 2002 assembly elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket and became MLA for the fourth time. He then joined BSP and became MLA for the fifth time in 2007 and was made a minister of state. Ratan Lal returned to BJP just before the 2023 civic elections. However, after about three and a half years, he again became disillusioned with BJP and on Saturday he joined SP along with his son Rohit Ratan, district panchayat member representative Jitendra Patel. During this time, SP Lohia Vahini national vice-president Abhishek Yadav Prajwal was also present in Lucknow. Adarohit Ratan had also contested the 2022 assembly elections on a BSP ticket from Mauranipur. He had finished third. Earlier, he had also been a district panchayat member. Rohit had resigned from BSP in 2023.
