Rickshaw Puller K. Vijay Dhamu Creates History in Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026 witnessed one of the biggest upsets. K. Vijay Dhamu, a rickshaw puller by profession, created history by winning the Royapuram seat handsomely. Dhamu, contesting on behalf of actor Vijay's newly formed party'Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam'( TVK), defeated two powerful leaders of the state. Vijay Dhamu got a total of over 55,000 votes, defeating his nearest rival by a margin of 14,000 votes. The victory is significant as he defeated AIADMK veteran and 5-time MLA D. Jayakumar. Jayakumar finished third with only 18,000 votes. On the other hand, DMK candidate Suber Khan finished second but could not withstand the'victory wave'sweeping across Tamil Nadu.
