Rising Diabetes Cases Among Children in Kathua District: Experts Express Concern

Experts at GMC Kathua have expressed concern over the impact on the health of young children. The rising cases of diabetes in the district have raised the concern of the health department and the general public. Three out of 100 children in the OPD of the district's largest health institute are obese or diabetic. According to Dr. Badri Nath Bhogal, Head of the Department of Medicine at Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua, the disease is now not limited to the elderly. It is also spreading rapidly among children and adolescents. The current situation is that two to three out of every 100 patients who come for treatment are adolescents. If it is not controlled in time, the situation may become more serious in the coming years. According to Bhogal, Type-2 diabetes was earlier considered a disease of adults but now Type-1 diabetes cases are also being reported in children.
