RJD's Sonu Kumar Rai Wins Bhojpur-Buxar MLC By-Election in Bihar

Arrah: The counting of votes for the by-election to the Bihar Legislative Council was held on Thursday. NDA candidate Kanhaiya Prasad initially led, but was suddenly overtaken by RJD candidate Sonu Kumar Rai. The counting of votes for this by-election was done at Rajkiya Kanya Plus Two Vidyalaya. The voting for this by-election was held on 12 May 2026, with 97.96 percent voting. There were a total of 6 candidates in the fray. Bhojpur-Buxar MLC by-election results In Bhojpur-Buxar MLC by-election, Sonu Rai of RJD and Kanhaiya Prasad of JDU were considered to be in a tight contest. But after the results were out, it became clear that Sonu Kumar Rai had the upper hand from the beginning. For this, Sonu Kumar Rai was defeated by the first preference votes. However, in the first preference, Sonu Rai was ahead by 341 votes. A total of 5,335 votes were found to be valid. But according to the equation of votes, Sonu Rai needed 2,668 votes for the by-election.
