Samajwadi Party President Embroiled in Controversy Over Viral Video

A major controversy has erupted within the Samajwadi Party (SP) from the Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh. A purported sting video of SP district president Sharafat Ali is going viral on social media. In this video, Sharafat Ali is heard saying highly objectionable and undignified things against the family of two very strong and senior women leaders of his own party. As soon as the video surfaced, there was an earthquake in the politics of the district and the matter reached the top leadership sitting in Lucknow. Former MP Usha Verma and her sister-in-law and former MLA Rajeshwari Devi became the victims of this indecent comment of Sharafat Ali. This family has a big name and influence in Hardoi politics. Rajeshwari Devi has been a two-time MLA, while Usha Verma has been a three-time MP. Late Babumai Lal, the father-in-law of both of them, was a very big leader of the area and was considered very close to SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav.
