Saudi Doctors Successfully Separate Conjoined Filipino Twins After Six-Hour Surgery

Doctors in Saudi Arabia have surgically separated Filipino babies who were joined at birth. The surgery was performed at King Abdullah Specialized Children's Hospital (KASCH) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It is considered the most successful surgery on conjoined babies in the world. A team of 22 specialist doctors performed the operation after 6 hours of surgery. The life of the babies was at great risk, but the doctors performed it with the help of experts and technology. According to the report of saudigazette.com, the surgery was led by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, head of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program and King Salman Relief Center. The operation involved a team of 22 doctors, surgeons, nurses and technicians. According to Dr. Al-Rabeeah, the operation lasted for about 6 hours. He said that the babies were joined at the chest and abdomen area. Both the babies were successfully connected to the liver. Some part of their intestines was also helped by Dr. Al-Rabeeah.
