New Delhi: The Saudi-led coalition on Sunday, November 8, announced that its air defence systems had intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia towards the Saudi capital, Riyadh. In a statement posted on X, the coalition said that the missiles were intercepted before reaching their intended target. The development came after Saudi Civil Defence issued alerts warning of potential danger in Dammam and the Eastern Province governorates of Abqaiq and Al-Ahsa. Residents were advised to move to safe locations and follow official safety instructions The latest development follows claims by Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree that the group had carried out six missile and drone operations targeting strategic installations in Saudi Arabia. These allegedly included King Khalid International Airport, oil storage facilities and Aramco installations in Riyadh, Khurais and Dawadmi. Saree claimed that the operations were carried out in retaliation for Saudi military action against Yemen. He also alleged that Saudi Arabia had conducted 105 airstrikes and missile attacks on several Yemeni regions within 24 hours. These claims have not been independently verified. Meanwhile, Yemen’s internationally recognised government has urged Lebanon to take coordinated measures to prevent Hezbollah from providing alleged military assistance to the Houthi militia.
