New Delhi: After the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition was rejected, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has once again taken charge of the house. Returning to his chair, he clarified that the proceedings of the house are conducted only according to established rules and procedures. Birla noted that the house had a marathon 12-hour discussion on the motion against him. During this period, the opposition questioned his impartiality and alleged that the voice of opposition members was being stifled. Addressing the house, the speaker emotionally declared that the Lok Sabha represents the wishes of 1.4 billion citizens of the country. He stressed that his constant endeavour has been to ensure that every member of the house gets a full and equal opportunity to express his views. He explained that he always encourages not only experienced MPs but also new members who are hesitant to participate in the proceedings. According to Birla, it is the collective responsibility of every member of the house to maintain the dignity of the house.
