Student Union Elections' Absence Affects Academic System, Administrative Accountability at Vir Kunwar Singh University

The impact of not having student union elections in Vir Kunwar Singh University since 2018 is not limited to student politics. It is also having a direct impact on the university's academic system, administrative accountability, and resolution of student problems. The student union is an institutional channel of communication between students and the university administration. In its absence, a large number of problems are reduced to individual grievances and the collective voice is weakened. Another effect of not having elections is that students are not getting a practical experience of democratic leadership and responsibility. Students are confused on which platform to raise their collective problems. The regular channel of communication between the university administration and students is also weakened. Activist Pramod Kumar Singh says that only holding student union elections is not the solution to these problems. Along with elections, accountability of elected representatives, code of conduct, regular meetings, grievance redressal mechanism, and transparency of the university administration are also necessary. The student union also has to maintain the academic environment and give real priority to the students'issues. This is possible only when Amar student representatives and student representatives are elected on behalf of the university.
