Supreme Court Allows Abhishek Banerjee to Travel Abroad for Eye Treatment

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has allowed Abhishek Banerjee to go abroad for three weeks in September for eye treatment. The bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant has given this permission with certain conditions. The court has directed that Abhishek Banerjee will travel abroad only on his diplomatic passport. He will have to give the complete itinerary, address of his stay abroad, information about the treating doctor and hospital, duration of stay and flight information to the investigating agencies. The Supreme Court has said that the investigating agencies should keep these information given by Abhishek Banerjee confidential. Abhishek Banerjee had challenged in the Supreme Court the order of the Calcutta High Court which had refused to lift the ban on his foreign travel in the case related to the alleged inflammatory speech. The bench refused to consider the state's objection. Justice Bagchi said - "Every person has the right to go abroad, every person has the right to choose the treatment." Justice Abhishek Banerjee had also said that this speech was related to the Calcutta High Court's order to allow him to go abroad for treatment.
