During the hearing of the petition of Samajwadi Party leader Mohammad Azam Khan in the Supreme Court, senior advocate Kapil Sibal raised serious questions about the cases registered against him and the action of the ED. Azam Khan has challenged the arrest made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in two PAN card case after his release from Rampur jail. He has also challenged the order of judicial custody of November 1 in the money laundering case related to Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. During the hearing, Kapil Sibal said that 22 new cases have now been registered on the basis of ECIR. On this, the Chief Justice (CJI) said that the High Court has repeatedly granted relief and such relief can be easily sought there. On this, Sibal gave the old chronology of the case and said that 26 FIRs were registered in 2019 regarding an incident of the year 2006. In most of these cases, bail was got, but despite this, he had to stay in jail from 2022 to 2025. Sibal argued that he was continuously getting 87 FIRs registered on behalf of Azam Khan after filing 88 cases on the basis of ECIR.
