Supreme Court to Hear Petition Against Lok Sabha Speaker's Approval of MP Mergers

The Supreme Court will hear after two weeks the petition filed against the decision of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to approve the merger of 6 MPs of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray Group) party with Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena. Meanwhile, all the parties will file counter affidavits. The Supreme Court said that the parties who have not received the notice so far should be served the notice. On behalf of Shiv Sena (UBT), its MP Arvind Sawant has challenged the decision of Lok Sabha Speaker in the Supreme Court. Shiv Sena (UBT) has said that the functioning of the party as a political party in Parliament has come to a complete standstill. These 6 MPs are no longer with the party. The Lok Sabha Speaker has approved their merger with another party. Actually, before the monsoon session of Parliament, the Lok Sabha Speaker had approved the merger of 6 MPs of Shiv Sena (UBT) with Eknath Shinde's group. After this, the number of Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs in the Lok Sabha has been reduced to 3. Shiv Sena MP Supriya Sule has attacked the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for insulting the Constitution.
