The Supreme Court will hear the petition of Tamilaga Vetri Kashagam (TVK) MLA Srinivas Sethupathi today i.e. Wednesday after the setback from the Madras High Court. This hearing is important because the vote of confidence motion is to be voted in the assembly today. Sethupathi is currently deprived of the right to vote in the house due to the order of the Madras High Court. Sethupathi has challenged this decision of the High Court in his petition and has sought immediate relief. In the 2026 assembly election, Sethupathi defeated DMK leader Periyakuruppan by a margin of only one vote. After this close victory, Periyakuruppan had filed an election petition, which the High Court had stopped Sethupathi from voting in the house. The Madras High Court in its order clearly stated that the ban on Sethupathi's vote in the house is only for the entire hearing of the case. The court also said that this order is not to cancel Sethupathi's victory, but to ensure transparency in the election process.
