The Supreme Court will today hear petitions relating to alleged police excesses during the recent protests against the NEET paper leak and exam malpractices. A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana will hear these petitions. The court has earlier indicated that it may set up an SIT headed by a former Supreme Court judge to investigate the allegations of protesters and those injured by pellet guns. Will it also find out whether the policemen were attacked by students or anti-social elements? On July 28, the apex court restrained states from taking any coercive action against protesters and directed that those below 18 years of age be released on the condition that none of them had a criminal history.
