Syria's parliament was formed on Wednesday for the first time since the Assad regime. Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa released a list of 70 MPs elected by the president. This reorganization of the Syrian parliament shows that the country is now moving towards legislation. The head of Syria's election committee, Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad, reported that this new parliament will have a total of 210 members. The first meeting of the new parliament will be held on Monday. Syria was long suffering from the brutal rule of the Assad family and the civil war. Nearly 500,000 people have lost their lives in this war. All the newly elected members of the new parliament will be sworn in and the presidential council of the parliament will be elected. Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa's list of 70 MPs includes 15 women. Also, the total number of female members of the Syrian parliament is now 22. The first phase of the parliamentary elections in Syria was held in October. Although the southern province of Sudha was excluded at the time, the anti-Syrian government was also excluded from the voting.
