Tamil Nadu Politics in Flux: TVK Meets Allies Amid Growing Tensions

Tamil Nadu politics is in a flux these days. The bid of his supporters for the Prime Minister's post by incumbent CM Vijay has made TVK's ally Congress uncomfortable. TVK is meeting with its allies on 9 September. The meeting comes amid growing tensions within TVK with the Congress demanding Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to be projected as the opposition's prime ministerial candidate for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Ministers in the Vijay government, Aadhava Arjuna, Raj Mohan and Nirmal Kumar, have invited CPI (M), CPI and MDMK for a meeting. However, it is not confirmed whether TVK's largest ally in the alliance, Congress, has been invited for a meeting. The agenda for Wednesday's meeting is also not clear. The timing of the meeting is considered to be crucial, as differences between TVK and Congress over who will lead the opposition in 2029 have now come out in the open. Vijay's many MLAs have publicly stated that they support the Prime Minister's post since 2029.
