Chennai: A new chapter has been written in the political history of Tamil Nadu today. TVK chief and superstar C. Joseph Vijay has been sworn in as the 9th Chief Minister of the state in a grand ceremony. Vijay created history by reaching the pinnacle of power with the party he formed just two years ago, ending the era of DMK and AIADMK that had dominated the state politics for the last 59 years. The event held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai was attended by many stalwarts including Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and actress Trisha Krishnan. Vijay's party TVK has emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 seats, with the support of allies, with a total of 120 MLAs. Along with the Chief Minister, 9 MLAs were sworn in as Ministers, including leaders like Venkataraman, Raj Mohan and Arjun. In this election, the ruling DMK has been sworn in as the 9th Chief Minister of the state with 59 seats and the ADMK with 47 seats, which is the third time that the Chief Minister took oath outside the stadium.
