Tensions Escalate: Strait of Hormuz Temporarily Closed Amid US-Iran Conflict

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced the temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz, accusing Iran of US interference. The IRGC fired warning shots at a ship that was trying to pass through without permission. Hormuz was then temporarily closed. The US military said the US launched strikes on Iran early Sunday after an attack on a merchant ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to Reuters, state media outlet IRIB reported explosions in Bandar Abbas and Sirik, while Mehr News Agency said explosions were heard on Qeshm Island. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei vowed revenge for the assassination of his father Ali Khamenei. He said it is "our nation's desire to take revenge." The incident occurred in the US-Iran Strait, where a major oil export route, the Strait of Hormuz, is closed.
