Based on a tip-off, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Thane rural police and Padgha police conducted a raid at the आर.आर. stone crusher complex at Janwal village in Bhiwandi taluka and recovered a large quantity of explosive materials. The police received information that blasting was being done using gelatin sticks and detonators in the quarry area without the required license and permission. A joint team of the local crime branch, Padgha police, and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) searched a room in the labourers'residential complex during the operation. From there, 86 gelatin sticks, 16 detonators, and registers related to the use and purchase of explosives were recovered. The investigation found that the storage of explosive materials was not up to the prescribed safety standards. Also, the registers of use and purchase were not updated for several months, leading to suspicions about the use of explosives. Further investigation led to the recovery of 65 detonators from one active quarry near the quarry site and 69 detonators from another site in the district. A total of 306 detonators were recovered during the operation.
