Tipra Motha Party supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha , asserting that the party’s “community power” would prevail over the BJP in the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Addressing a rally, Debbarman said the elections were being fought to safeguard the TTAADC and protect the rights of indigenous people. He alleged that the ruling BJP was attempting to take control of the council using its resources. “This election is being fought to protect TTAADC,” he said. He also challenged the Chief Minister to a public debate, accusing him of targeting Tiprasa leadership. “You insulted me, you used harsh words—that is not the issue. But you challenged me, and I accept that challenge. I ask him to come for a debate,” he said. Expressing confidence in public support, Debbarman said tribal voters, including youth and women, would back his party. “People from the tribal areas will come out in our support, and we will defeat their arrogance,” he said. The Tipra Motha chief alleged attempts to weaken his party through inducements, claiming that some leaders had switched sides for money. “Several crores of rupees have been offered. After their utility is over, they will be discarded,” he said. He said he had been advised to align with the BJP for positions and administrative control but declined. “My loyalty is with the people, which is why I am contesting alone,” he said. Outlining key demands, Debbarman called for land rights, direct funding to the ADC, greater legislative representation, and improved opportunities in education and government employment for tribal youth. At another rally, he alleged that the BJP planned to remove the word “Tribal” from the TTAADC and rename it as the Tripura Autonomous Territorial Council, as mentioned in its manifesto. He also claimed that party workers were being implicated in multiple cases, accusing the government of selective action. Debbarman urged voters to maintain peace and respect all candidates during the election process.
