TMC Leader Submits Petitions to Disqualify Rebel MPs Who Merged with Another Party

TMC leaders today met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Abhishek Banerjee was accompanied by Kalyan Banerjee, Derek O'Brien, Mahua Moitra and Saugata Roy. During the meeting, Abhishek Banerjee termed the merger of rebel TMC MPs as unconstitutional. He handed over 20 petitions seeking disqualification against 20 rebel MPs of his party to Speaker Om Birla. Abhishek Banerjee told Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla that MPs cannot merge with another party on their own, so they should be disqualified. On the petitions filed to disqualify the rebel MPs, he said, "We hope the Lok Sabha Speaker will give us justice." After meeting the Speaker, Abhishek Banerjee said that the rebel MPs who have claimed to have joined the little-known Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) should be disqualified from the membership of the House on the grounds of leaving the party.
