Tapas Chatterjee joined the TMC after leaving the CPI-M after the 2011 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. Chatterjee, a former MLA from Rajarhat Newtown, alleged that senior party leaders do not get enough opportunities to interact with the leadership. He said that he did not get a chance to talk to the then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on any issue. The TMC chief ignored him while in government. Chatterjee further said that despite having nearly five decades of political experience, his phone calls to TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee were routed to a younger leader. He said that he was extremely unhappy with this ill-treatment meted to him. Biswajit Das, a former MLA from Adarbagda, also met Ritabrata Banerjee at the assembly office. Das left the TMC in 2019 and joined the BJP. He won the 2021 assembly election on a BJP ticket, but returned to the TMC only a few months later. Jairam Ramesh, who won the North West Bengal seat on a TMC ticket in 2016, made serious allegations against the government.
