TMC Rebellion: Senior Leaders Split from Party, Merging with NCPI to Avoid Membership Cancellation

The whole controversy started in the month of June. The blame for the defeat in the Bengal elections began to be put on each other. After this, there were two splits in the party. The rebellion is not led by an ordinary worker, but by old TMC stalwarts Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. The TMC had a total of 28 MPs in the Lok Sabha. Of these, 20 MPs chose the path of rebellion. There was a fear of losing membership under the Anti-Defection Law (10th Schedule). To avoid this, the rebel MPs made up their minds. They announced the merger of their faction in the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) of Tripura. By law, if more than two-thirds of the MPs of a party meet together in another party, their membership is not cancelled. There are 20 out of 28 rebels, who are more than two-thirds.
