Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee has written a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday (July 27, 2026) expressing concern over issues related to party MPs. In this letter, he has also demanded immediate action on the petitions of TMC rebel MPs. In his letter, Banerjee requested that the petitions related to the cancellation of the membership of rebel MPs be heard immediately. He said in the letter that five weeks have passed since the petitions were filed, but no notice has been issued, no hearing has been scheduled, and no procedural directions have been passed till date. Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee said, "Such continuous inaction is a matter of serious concern. It is the powers available to the Lok Sabha Speaker under Paragraph 6 of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution, which need to be exercised in a reasonable time frame, so that the anti-defection law against the rebel party and Banerjee's law can be protected.
