Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee Moves Supreme Court Over Delay in Disqualification Proceedings

Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee has now moved the Supreme Court of the country expressing concern over the delay in the disqualification proceedings of the 20 rebel MPs of the party. He has demanded in the petition filed in the court that the disqualification proceedings of the rebels be completed as soon as possible. At the same time, he has also requested the Lok Sabha Speaker to give an early direction on this matter. Abhishek Banerjee's petition in the Supreme Court has been fixed for hearing on Tuesday (August 25, 2026). Banerjee's petition will be heard by a three-judge bench of Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant. The Trinamool Congress MP has requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to expeditiously decide on the 20 separate petitions filed to disqualify the 20 rebel MPs who have left the TMC and joined the NCPI. According to the news agency, Abhishek Banerjee, National General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress, has started the proceedings against the rebel MPs in the Supreme Court.
