New Delhi: The TMC will contest elections in Assam in addition to West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee's party has decided to go it alone in the northeastern state. Initially, the party had planned to contest 51 seats, but now it has been revealed that the TMC will contest a total of 22 seats. The party has announced the names of its candidates. The Trinamool Congress had earlier made it clear that it will not be a part of the opposition alliance in the Assam elections. The TMC is confident that it can play a united role as an opposition in Assam. The TMC released a list of candidates in Assam in two phases. The first list had names of 17 candidates, while the second list had names of seven candidates. Dulu Ahmed also withdrew his candidature, taking the total number of candidates to 23. The Mariani candidate also withdrew his candidature, bringing the total number of candidates to 22. Alleging that the Trinamool Congress has given a chance to rebel parties to defect to the party in the future, Deb said that the party wants to enter the state as an alternative force.
