Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Tipra Motha Party and raised serious doubts about the party’s election fund management. Hitting out at Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman and his recent statement, Saha said, “The top leader of the party himself admitted that he refused to stitch an alliance despite having been advised by the leaders from his party. Some leaders of that party are said to have advised him to go with BJP to ensure that they have access to enough funds for fighting elections. Now, the alliance talks didn’t work out and both the parties are fighting separately against each other. The question arises from where the election funds have been arranged.” Saha also asserted that a thorough probe would be conducted if anything dubious comes to notice. “We will conduct a thorough probe into all these suspicious matters once we are elected to the TTAADC ,” said Saha. Accusing Tipra Motha of corruption, he said, “Defalcation and embezzlement of funds meant for development and socio-economic development have emerged as bottlenecks to the overall development in the TTAADC. The ruling party in the tribal district council has been working to fill their own pockets rather than making the lives of people easier.” According to Saha, Tipra Motha had been spreading misinformation on a range of issues, especially the issue of TTAADC land being captured by Urban Local Bodies. “The whole campaign of the Tipra Motha party stands on rumours, misleading facts and unverified information. It is being said that TTAADC land is being occupied by the urban local bodies. As a Chief Minister, I want to assure you all that not an inch of land will be occupied from the TTAADC. We will protect the geographical integrity of the entire TTAADC area as per its original map,” he added. He also likened Tipra Motha ’s approach to politics to that of the Trinamool Congress, which is in power in West Bengal. “Tipra Motha has imported the brand of politics in TTAADC for which Trinamool Congress is infamous. Threats and intimidation are the biggest tools of the ruling dispensation to ensure that their rule continues unhindered,” added Saha. Urging voters to support the BJP, Saha said, “A conspiracy is being hatched to intimidate voters. Don’t get afraid of these cowardly tactics. Go and cast your votes in the morning to help BJP form the council in TTAADC. The politics of hooliganism no longer exist. Instructions have been passed to take stringent possible action against the perpetrators. The state government and the State Election Commission will stand beside the voters.” The elections to the TTAADC are scheduled for April 12.
