This important meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping is now expected to take place at the end of April. Trump told reporters at the White House, "I wanted to go to China, but because of the ongoing war, it is imperative for me to be here. My presence as commander-in-chief is necessary in the event of war." The main reason for postponing this visit is the intense conflict with Iran in the Middle East and the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has also previously indicated that relations will only improve if China helps secure the Strait of Hormuz. The US wants China to put pressure on Iran.
