The councillors who have been disqualified include Roshan Shaikh of AIMIM and Bushra Nadeem Malik of NCP. Roshan Shaikh was elected from ward number 138 while Bushra Malik was elected from ward number 170 of Kurla East. Both seats were reserved for OBC women. The district caste certificate verification committees invalidated their certificates after an inquiry, on the basis of which their membership was automatically terminated. The political equation of the 227-member BMC House has also changed after the disqualification of the two councillors. The number of AIMIM councillors has now been reduced to five, while only two NCP councillors are left in the House. It is believed that the process of by-elections to these seats may begin in the near future. The two councillors whose membership was earlier also terminated last month. These include Shamim Patel of AIMIM from ward 137 and Deepak Sawant, Mayor of Shiv Sena (UBT) from ward 111. Both caste certificates were found to be invalid by the Ritu Sheikh Parbhade caste verification committee in April 2026.
