US and Iran Intensify Diplomatic Efforts Over Strait of Hormuz Shipping Concerns

Diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran to ensure the safe passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz have intensified. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Oman on Saturday, where preparations are being made for talks on the safe passage of ships through the strategic sea route. The US wants Iran to publicly assure that the unhindered and safe passage of all ships to Hormuz will be ensured. US President Donald Trump said the US and Iran have agreed to continue talks, although tensions have escalated between the two sides this week. Trump also said that the ceasefire in force between the two countries is now over. No new attacks have been reported in the past two days. A senior Iranian source said Iran, the US, Qatar and Pakistan have agreed on a framework for talks and are trying to organize mediators. Oman is playing a mediating role in this effort, according to media reports. US Vice President Jaden Vengs, Foreign Minister Mark Farrow, and US Special Envoy for the Far East Affairs Agency Jared Kushner are expected to attend the talks.
