Washington: Powerful Indian-origin Congresswoman and co-chair of the Transgender Equality Task Force, Pramila Jayapal, has introduced an important resolution to mark Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31. The main purpose of the resolution is to recognize the achievements of transgender and gender-diverse people and to honor them as equals in society. Launched by activist Rachel Crandall-Krocker in 2009, the day celebrates the positive contributions of transgender people, rather than focusing solely on violence. Pramila Jayapal said in an emotional message on the occasion, "I stand firmly with our trans loved ones. We must protect this community from brutal attacks by Trump and the Republican Party. Building an America where everyone can live authentically with their identity is our priority."
