Just two weeks before the midterm elections in the United States, the country's politics are heating up. Top leaders of the opposition Democratic Party have filed a lawsuit in federal court against President Trump and his administration. Democrats allege that the Trump administration is trying to strip states of the right to hold elections and intimidate local election officials into giving in to illegal demands. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in a Washington court, demands that the court immediately block the Trump administration from removing names of legally registered voters from statewide voter rolls and preventing them from voting. The plaintiffs include Senator Chuck Schumer and House of Representatives member Hakeem Jeffries. The leaders also demand the court declare that the Trump administration has illegally threatened state election officials with legal action ahead of the November 3 election. The lawsuit specifically cites recent actions by the California Department of Justice to "block" mail-in ballots that were deemed "non-citizen."
