US-Iran Talks Spark Concern in Israel Over Regional Power Dynamics

The behind-the-scenes talks between the US and Iran have taken a new turn in the politics of West Asia. There is deep concern within Israel about the new agreement being worked out between US President Donald Trump and Iranian officials. Israel fears that the agreement will not only strengthen Iran's influence in Lebanon but also weaken Israel's military power against Hezbollah. According to media reports, the US and Iran have held several rounds of talks in Switzerland, following which the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last week. The main purpose of this is to stop the ongoing tensions and war in the Gulf region. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (affectionately known as'Bibi') is upset about the Iran-US negotiations. An Israeli source said that Bibi is very nervous about this. The main reason for Israel's concern is that Hezbollah is also involved in these talks.
