USA's Name Change: From 'United Colonies' to United States of America

On 9 September 1776, a decision was made regarding the name of America, which further determined the identity of this new country, which is considered to be one of the most powerful countries in the world. We know America as the United States of America (USA). But about 250 years ago today, America was called'United Colonies '. The Continental Congress of America officially changed the name of this new country from'United Colonies'to the United States of America. At that time, there was a war of independence between America and Britain. The American colonies under Britain were trying to establish themselves as a new country. After the declaration of independence in July 1776, the situation was changing rapidly. The need for a new name for the country also became clear. In the early period of the American War of Independence, the name'United Colonies'was used for these areas. But this name was not fully reflected in the name of the new country. On 7 June 1776, a resolution was passed by the Congress in which Richard Cottin had approved it.
