Work on the under-construction vehicular flyover near Medinipur is now gaining momentum. About 35% of the work has been completed so far. The construction is being carried out by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at a cost of about ₹52 crore. The department has set a target to complete the construction by July 2027. The flyover will be opened for traffic after completing the process of load testing. A total of 24 pillars are to be constructed under the project with approach roads on both sides. Of these, 21 are proposed on the P-2 side and three on the P-1 side. The construction work is being carried out under the supervision of NHAI. The project proposal was sent to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in 2024. The construction started after approval and budgetary allocation in 2025. The commissioning of the flyover is expected to reduce traffic pressure and ease traffic in the area, especially for people commuting to and from Bihar. It will provide relief to farmers and agri-businesses.
