West Bengal Cabinet Approves Committee to Review Draft Uniform Civil Code Bill

Agnimitra Paul, a minister in the state government, said the committee has been given four weeks to review the draft UCC bill in detail and submit its recommendations. After the cabinet meeting, she told reporters, "The state cabinet has approved the formation of a committee to examine the draft West Bengal Uniform Civil Code-2026. The committee, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, will submit its report within four weeks, after which the bill will be tabled in the assembly." The decision comes just three days after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari began the formal process of implementing the UCC in West Bengal.
