West Bengal CPI (M) Leaders Protest Voter List Issues Ahead of Elections

The EC said the voter list was'frozen'on April 6 after the names of several CPI (M) candidates were disposed of under consideration. However, when several CPI (M) candidates went to file nominations, they were told that their names were not on the voters'list. The CPI (M) delegation made specific complaints to the CEO's office on Thursday. The CPI (M) delegation included CPI (M) central committee member Shamik Lahiri, state secretariat member Kallol Majumdar, and senior CPI (M) leader Sukhendu Panigrahi. The CPI (M) leaders met the commission and said that the constitutional fundamental right of the people is to vote. No one has the right to take away this right to vote. The CEO had no answer to this. Shamik Lahiri said that CPI (M) candidate Dipu Das, the Left Front nominee from Kasba assembly constituency, was told that his name was not on the voters'list when he filed his nomination on February 28, but refused to file the nomination despite showing the voters'list. The returning officer later told the candidate that it was a'down server problem '.
