Kolkata: With the change of power in West Bengal, the political tussle has now reached the real estate and corruption front. The current government led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has initiated the biggest ever legal action against the opposition Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee as well as his close associates. On Monday afternoon, a high-level team of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) visited several properties, including Banerjee's official residence'Shanti Niketan'on Harish Mukherjee Road, and pasted official notices under Section 401 of the KMC Act, creating a huge sensation in Bengal politics. According to the corporation rules, notices under Section 401 are issued only when a building or part of it has been constructed illegally without the prior approval of the civic body. A senior official has clearly indicated that the notice paves the way for future demolition (bulldozer action) action. If serious violations are found in the course of the investigation and map, the alleged illegal buildings will also be found again on'Shanti Niketan '.
