A joint team of West Bengal Police and central forces searched the residence of TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata on Saturday (June 13) in a case of alleged financial fraud. The dramatic development has triggered a fresh political storm in West Bengal. The search operation, led by a team from Shalbani police station in Paschim Medinipur and assisted by Kolkata Police, began after 3 am and lasted for over four hours. The raid has evoked sharp reaction from the Trinamool Congress. Former Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee rushed to Abhishek's house after receiving news of the sudden police action. According to the police, the officers knocked on the door of Abhishek Banerjee's Kalighat residence several times but there was no response. The Trinamool Congress alleged that the police team broke the lock for the search operation and entered Abhishek Banerjee's premises.
