Women's Reservation: A Step Towards Empowerment or Just for the Powerful?

Politics over women's reservation is raging in the country and it is being considered a big step towards increasing women's participation. But at the same time, a debate is raging whether this reservation will really give a chance to ordinary women or only women from families who already have a strong hold in politics will benefit more. It has been seen in the last few years that many women MPs who reach Parliament belong to one or another strong political family. This is giving the impression that the entry of women in politics is still not easy for ordinary women. If there is no transparency in ticket distribution, then the benefit of women's reservation will also be more to those families who are already strong in politics. If we talk about Rajasthan, there are many examples of dynastic politics here too. Manju Sharma, an MP from Jaipur Lok Sabha seat, has a political connection with her family. Her father Bhanwar Lal Sharma was an MLA from Hawamahal assembly constituency in Jaipur from 1977 to 1998. In such a political environment, she met Rajwada's former MP Mahima Kumari Singh, who is also associated with the BJP.
